Log Homes Plans and Designs

The traditional log house plan originated from northern Europe during the Bronze Age (about 3500 BC). When European settlers arrived in America, there had been an ancient tradition of a thousand years to use logs for houses, barns and other buildings in Scandinavian countries as well as Russia and Germany. This area has soft wood forest trees that can be made easily by hand tools. Log houses are constructed of round logs stacked horizontally and notched at the ends so that the walls are interlocked. When Swedes and Swedes arrived in New Sweden (Philadelphia area) they imported their knowledge of log construction with them, as did later settlers from Germany.

Settlers from the British Isles do not have the tradition of round wood buildings like that but they soon learn this technique because wooden buildings are very comfortable in eastern America. There are abundant softwood forests available, and other building materials including nails and nails are not available, expensive, or difficult to transport. Moreover wooden houses are easy to build: a self-employed man can build a cabin in a few weeks. With the sliding wooden rod that leans against the wall as a sloping plane, it is possible to lift round wood with a rope to build a two-story wooden house again. However, usually a log house plan consists of one room, perhaps twelve to sixteen square feet. There will be one door, but most there are no windows.

When the windows do exist, they are covered with animal skins smeared with oil rather than glass. Fireplaces are built of rock or clay and chimneys from wattle. Since this is not a very safe fire construction mode, stones or bricks are used when they can be obtained. Fireplace equipped with warmth and light as well as a cooking area. The interior walls of the wooden house are carved with cloth or clay; and a simple tamped ground floor (although some wooden houses have puncheon floors, made of split wood laid flat on top). The higher designs have lofts that are used as beds and storage areas.

The roof depends on what material is available, but often the cedar shingle roof made with shingle with split hands is placed over two-fourths of the rafters. The modern version of the log house floor plan shares the many advantages of a bungalow-style house plan in the sense of being an economical choice for simple country-style living. Modern wooden houses constructed of milled wood are usually produced in northern or eastern Europe. This milled log is squared and trimmed to facilitate assembly. Log homes are a popular choice in rural areas, especially in the western state, where wooden houses covering an area of more than 3000 square feet in an unusual area.

The style became popular during the Great Depression in the nineties of the thirties when the Civil Conservation Corps built thousands of log cabins in national parks throughout the U.S.; and many garden visitors see this building and adopt a style for their own home. The largest wooden cabin in the world was built in 1930 in Montebello, QC Canada: Chateau Montebello Hotel. In wooden houses in Europe is often built as a summer plant in the garden, or as a home office or accommodation homestead. The ground floor plan of wood represents much of what America states: a sturdy and rugged shelter designed for a simple, hard, and independent life. Like a bungalow-style house plan designed for simple life in the country, a log house plan is the best choice for eco-friendly and eco-friendly lifestyles.
